Lindsay Lohan's troubled past – spiralling drug addiction, f**k list and jail time

Lindsay Lohan was the darling of teen films after appearing in some of the funniest and most quotable films of the Noughties.

But the Freaky Friday star would go on to be plagued by addiction issues and romantic strife as her career dramatically swerved off-course.

The 36-year-old had burst onto the scene in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap, playing both of the twins in the movie, with the late British actress Natasha Richardson playing her mother.

But it was Mean Girls, a story about female relationships and rivalries at a US high school, that really catapulted her into fame.

That feature length was her first venture outside of the Disney sphere and shot her to superstardom, with her performance as Cady Heron earning her five major awards, including two MTV Video Awards.

Lindsay had only turned 18 when the flick was released, but it made her into a household name.

After some difficult years, the Hollywood star is back on the scene with her comeback film, Falling for Christmas, due to land on Netflix in November.

As viewers await the new film, Daily Star has looked into the ups and downs of Lindsay’s life.

Was Lindsay Lohan addicted to drugs?

Lindsay Lohan has battled drug and alcohol addiction in the past

Lindsay has been open and honest about her previous struggles with addiction.

She admitted to Oprah Winfrey in a past interview that she would use cocaine “10 to 15 times a day”, coupling it with alcohol on a regular basis in her early 20s.

Lindsay has checked herself into rehab on a number of occasions.

Speaking about her experiences in 2013, she said: “I could write the book on rehab. Constantly sending me to rehab is pointless. The first few times I was court-ordered to rehab, it was like a joke, like killing time.

“But I think there are other things I could do instead of going to a rehab centre that would benefit me more.

“The best thing they could do for me would be to make me go abroad to different countries and work with children.”

Did Lindsay Lohan go to jail?

Lindsay Lohan did jail time

Lindsay’s “annus horribilis”, should she have to pick just one from her period of sliding fortunes, would probably be 2007.

It was the year that the worst of her problems seemed to catch up with her and would see her jailed for a short period.

During a tumultuous twelve-month period, Lindsay was convicted of drunk driving on two occasions and another time for her cocaine use.

She made three trips to rehab in the same year and was locked up for 84 minutes.

The second conviction came just two weeks after she had left rehab, while she failed to attend court-ordered substance abuse classes in 2009.

That same year, she was ordered to serve 90 days in prison after violating her probation.

In total, she has been ordered to spend time in jail on five separate occasions as a result of her misdemeanours.

Things did improve though, and in 2015 her probation was ended by a judge, marking the first time in eight years she did not have the watchful eye of the law on her.

‘Assault video’

Lindsay’s romantic life has often come under scrutiny.

Former flame Samantha Ronson, sister of music producer Mark Ronson, dated Lohan between 2008 and 2009 but later said she could not stand the paparazzi intrusion into their relationship.

But it is not just the press that has detailed parts of Lohan’s private life.

A shocking video – filmed by an onlooker in Mykonos, Greece – appeared to show billionaire playboy Egor Tarabasov violently grabbing Lindsay and twisting her arm behind her back as he tried to grab a phone from her hand on a beach.

In an incident that took place in 2016, the video depicts the row as starting while Lindsay and Egor, who were engaged before splitting in 2017, sat in a jeep.

The film shows Lindsay throwing a phone out of the vehicle, and the pair jumping out to pick it up.

Egor is seen running after her and lunging towards her as he tries to grab the device, appearing to pull her arm behind her back in the struggle.

After he wrestled the phone off her, Lindsay got back in the car, while Egor stood outside appearing to read a message.

Hollywood ‘conquest list’

There was major embarrassment for Lindsay in 2014 when her ‘f**k list* was leaked — detailing all the people the actress wanted to sleep with.

In Touch magazine had got hold of the list, which had been scrawled on a Scattergories card by Lindsay with friends at the Beverly Hills Hotel in January 2013.

Among the names included were Ashton Kutcher, Danny Cipriani, Brian from GPA, Belfast star Jamie Dornan and Riley S (a man she had met during a stay in rehab).

Lohan later confirmed that the list was real, but that she had never intended for it to go public — explaining that she had actually written it as part of her recovery in AA.

Recent career revival

After a tough few years, Lindsay has turned her attention to a host of positive projects, culminating in her film comeback next month.

Earlier this year, she launched her own podcast, The Lohdown.

She told listeners: “Having starred in dozens of movies and TV shows, I’m usually the one being interviewed.

“But now it’s my turn to ask all the questions, to dig deep and hear all about the fascinating and wonderful things that my guests are doing in their lives.”

Lohan, whose father hails from Ireland, also presented Lovestruck High, a reality dating show on Prime Video.

The programme focused on a number of UK-based youngsters going to an American-style high school with the goal of finding love and winning a healthy $100,000 (£80,000).

With Falling For Christmas ready for streaming as of November 10, and Lohan already working on her second Netflix film, Irish Wedding, she appears to be relishing her return to the big screen.

Speaking to Hollywood Reporter, the newly married actor said: “For me, my whole life, acting is like riding a bicycle. It’s just in me. It’s a part of me.”

She announced in July that she had married her financer fiancé Bader Shammas in a private ceremony, having met three years ago in Dubai, where the former child star has lived for the past seven years.
