Lorraine Kelly says Meghan Markle 'could make a real difference' in politics

Lorraine Kelly has supported a future political career for Meghan Markle by claiming the duchess “could make a real difference” in politics.

It came after Meghan and Prince Harry have spoken out about the recent US abortion ruling which has rolled back abortion rights.

Last week, the US Supreme Court overturned the historic Roe Vs Wade ruling which had been in place for nearly 50 years and gave women constitutional rights for abortion.

Lorraine said: “Much happier news for Meghan, and this is where I think she really comes into her own. She’s been talking to Vogue magazine. Her and Prince Harry have also been speaking about the abortion bans in many parts of the United States.

“This is where I really think she comes into her own, and it raises that whole speculation of whether she’s going to go into politics.”

There has been growing speculation as to whether or not Meghan will enter politics and even run for office.

Russel Myers replied: “Absolutely. That’s been said for quite a while now, because Prince Harry and Meghan have moved over to the United States. They’ve got their financial freedom, they’ve got their essential freedom from the royal family, so they can speak on political issues.”

He went on: “Meghan has said we might be in Washington very soon, so does she have political ambitions? I do think she does. She’s certainly rubbing shoulders with the right people and making the right noises, so sometimes it might not seem so ludicrous that she might stand for office.”

Lorraine later said: “I don’t think it’s ludicrous at all. I think she’s got things to say and she’s got an astonishing platform and she could make a real difference.”

Speaking to Vogue, Meghan said of the court ruling: “What does this tell women? It tells us that our physical safety doesn’t matter, and as a result that we don’t matter. But we do. Women matter.”

She added: “His [Prince Harry] reaction last week was guttural, like mine. I know that for so many women right now, there is a sentiment of despair. But, again, we have to band together and not wallow. We have to do the work.”
