Love Island 'nice guys' now – attacked on night out, OnlyFans career and suicide hell

The curse of the Love Island “nice guy” is hard to escape.

Year on year, there’s bound to be the typically friendzoned man running after the girls, offering cups of tea and foot rubs.

Though this ‘nice guy’ behaviour has been debunked by many behavioural experts over the years, the nice guy myth persists. They are just too pure for the villa.

Yep, despite Amy Day slamming Hugo Hammond as “fake” after he ditched her as soon as they were booted off the show, this year Liam was awarded the label of cinnamon roll too perfect for this world.

But what happens to the nice guys after they leave Majorca? From brutal attacks to a racy OnlyFans career, the better question is what doesn’t happen to them…

Hugo Hammond

Since being ejected from the villa with Amy Day after the turbulent Casa Amor saga last year, Hugo has been living it large with his TikTok career.

Hugo originally grabbed headlines as Love Island’s first ever disabled contestant, as he was born with clubfoot and was part of a Physical Disability cricket team.

The condition – formally named Congenital Talipes Equino-Varus – sees one or both of a child’s feet curl in and under at the toes from birth.

It occurs when the achilles tendon is too short, and can cause pain and difficulty walking if untreated.

Daily Star exclusively confirmed last year that Hugo wouldn’t be returning as a PE teacher after finding fame in the villa, with a school representative confirming: “Mr Hammond was here on a very short placement during his teacher training in the Spring Term. He was not employed by the school.”

And now Hugo has turned his back on teaching entirely, and instead elected to resume his career as a sportsman.

He now plays for Lashings XI and is hoping to represent the England PD team once again, after playing for them around the world in places like Bangladesh and Dubai.

Hugo also has a sponsorship from the cricket brand Millichamp & Hall.

Dr Alex George

Alex was the nice guy of his series

Love Island certainly boosted Dr Alex George’s career – as the physician now makes plenty of media appearances discussing topics related to health as well as working part-time.

The Medicine graduate also serves as the UK Young Mental Health Ambassador for the Department of Education, and has even met with Prime Minister Boris Johnson over improving the mental wellbeing of young people in Britain.

But Alex has had to go through a fair amount of tragedy to get to where he is today, as his younger brother Llŷr sadly took his own life in July 2020.

A heartbroken Alex confirmed at the time: “I can’t believe I am actually writing this post.

“I have lost my beautiful little brother to mental health. I love you so much Llŷr. The kindest and most caring soul.

“I was so proud of you starting medical school next month, you would have been the most incredible doctor.

“We are hurting so bad. No words can explain.

“As a family we are devastated. We love you and miss you so much. Please rest in peace. Our boy.”

In a rather dramatic turn of events, Alex decided to join racy subscription site OnlyFans in 2021.

But instead of posting naked snaps, he wanted to post clips surrounding the topic of mental health, self-care and positivity. The free page’s bio read: “My aim is to share wellbeing and self-care advice on all platforms, making trusted and engaging content available online.

He even set up his own OnlyFans account

“Therefore, for the over-18 age group, I have set up an OnlyFans page which is completely FREE to access, no paywall whatsoever.”

However, the account has since been deleted.

Controversy hit Dr Alex earlier this year, as he purchased four Pembrokeshire holiday homes to market out as lets.

Though he also used one to host a Ukrainian family fleeing from the war with Russia, he sparked a row online, with young people in the area arguing they’re being priced out of buying homes in their own area due to second-home buyers.

But Dr Alex insisted that he has “every right” to run a business in the area, and pressed ahead with the plans.

He told BBC Wales: “People can be very angry about things, and I think in this situation it was probably aimed in the wrong direction. If you want to change things like legislation or support the local housing authority, then you should speak to local leaders.”

Curtis Pritchard

Curtis broke hearts in Casa Amor

Curtis had all of our hearts in the villa – at least until his blossoming romance with Amy Hart came crashing down.

He wanted to couple up with Jourdan while in Casa Amor despite seeming completely loyal to Amy, leaving her heartbroken as she sobbed: “I thought I’d met my first love and The One.

“But it turns out I haven’t. I’m someone’s back-up plan yet again.”

Since then, ballroom dancer Curtis has dated fellow Love Islander Maura Higgins, but confirmed their split in March 2020. As of March 2022, he admitted he is “completely single” and wants to focus on his career instead.

But in 2018, he and his brother AJ were involved in a horrific nightclub attack in Cheshire, which left Curtis needing knee surgery afterwards.

A gang of thugs approached the pair at the Nakatcha club in Nantwich in the early hours, but Cheshire Police announced that there was “insufficient evidence” to take the case to court.

A 21-year-old was arrested and charged for the assault at the time.

Speaking of the incident on This Morning, Curtis revealed: “We weren’t there for trouble. We wanted to spend Christmas together and have a good time.

“Once it all happened the first thing that came to my mind was we’re in trouble, AJ is in trouble, we need to get out and protect ourselves.

“I can only say it was maybe jealousy. AJ was getting photos from people.”

Meanwhile, Curtis’ brother AJ has been involved in his own horror, as his girlfriend Abbie Quinnen suffered third degree burns after a social media video went wrong.

Abbie needed three skin grafts after filming the ‘life hack’ video, which intended to show a glass bottle being cut in half to use as a vase, ended with her being set on fire.

Luke Mabbott

Luke Mabbott might not have found love in his series of Love Island, but his romantic life has flourished outside of the villa, as he is now engaged to co-star Lucie Donlan.

He had been coupled up with Demi Jones on the show, and the pair finished third.

Lucie briefly dated her fellow 2019 contestant Joseph Garratt while on the show, but things fizzled between her and Luke in July 2020, and they announced their plans to tie the knot last year.

However, Luke seemed keen to dispense with the nice guy rumours in February this year, after it was reported he threw punches after becoming engaged in a row with a fan.

He was on holiday in Val-d’Isère at the time and in a bar when he was repeatedly targeted by a group of lads – and Luke attempted to hit them.

A clip obtained by The Sun showed Luke and his brother hit in the face with a snowball before lashing out.

A source told the publication: “A group of lads recognised him from TV and kept throwing snowballs at Luke. After a while, he lost patience with the whole thing and lashed out.

“He didn’t connect any of the punches and later, the same lads came up to him and apologised, saying it was just drunk banter.”

Liam Llewellyn

Liam’s shock exit from the villa this year had jaws dropping up and down the country – and was soon reunited with his dad, who flew out to Majorca to comfort him.

His famous dad David played rugby union for Wales in the 1999 World Cup – and even scored a try in the match.

Speaking on Heart South Wales, David gushed of his son: “It’s just a privilege to see him on there.

“He’s such a charming young man. He’s just a gem. He’s such a kind-hearted soul. He’d light up any room in the world.

“Whether he wins or not he’s a true gentleman and he’s coming across lovely, he’s a top young man.”

Speaking about his decision to quit the show before it had even really started, Liam said: “Obviously we all came here for the same sort of reason, but I haven’t been giving 100 per cent Liam. I know what 100 per cent Liam is and I’m miles off that.

“Trying to find someone you leave the villa with that you love, that’s the goal. But when you’re not feeling that, it makes it a very hard sort of time to find that.

“I’ve been thinking long and hard, it isn’t spur of the moment, so I’ve made a decision I’m going to leave the villa.”

Love Island airs nightly from 9pm on ITV2
