Love Island's Gemma Owen opens up on 'love/hate relationship' with dad Michael

Love Island’s Gemma Owen has finally been outspoken about her relationship with dad Michael Owen.

The 19-year-old beauty is no longer the only star in the villa with a famous parent as she was joined by Ronan Keating’s son Jack Keating who spoke to her about having a famous parent.

As Jack started questioning the starlet on her famous parents and asking her how well they get on, Gemma confessed that she and her dad have a “love hate relationship”.

Gemma said to Jack: “So your dad was in Boyzone?”, prompting Jack to explain that his dad is currently on tour and he gushed about being a child of a star.

He said: “It’s great as you probably know, I’ve got to do lots of fun things, meet interesting people, I’m blessed you know. Are you close with your mum and dad?”

Gemma added: “Yeah I’m super close to my dad as well. It’s like a love/hate relationship between me and my dad.

“Our personalities are so similar like we’re either getting on like a house on fire or we’re clashing.”

Speaking in the Beach Hut she said that she liked speaking abut family with Jack as she recognised he was very family oriented too.

It’s the first time Gemma has openly spoken about her dad in detail on the show – and fans were quick to notice.

One user wrote: “Aww Gemma talking about her dad.”

While another added: “It’s so nice to hear Gemma talking about her dad!”

However, Michael is yet to mention anything about his daughter saying they have a “love hate relationship”, and the famous footballer has kept his thoughts on the show to a minimum.

One time he couldn’t hold back though was when Gemma joined the rest of the stunning ladies for the heart race challenge – prompting Michael to share a tweet of an emoji covering its eyes.

He’s kept his thoughts on his eldest daughter on the show private, though the odd thing is slipping through the net, but while he’s remaining subtle on the show, fans still hope that he might appear for Meet The Parents.

Love Island airs weekdays at pm on ITV2 and ITV hub.
