Major ITV schedule shake-up causes chaos as soaps and game shows are moved

ITV schedules are due for a huge shake up as the World Cup begins in Qatar.

The sport is set to dominate the main broadcasting channels over the next few weeks and fans can expect their favourite shows to be on at completely different times.

Two massive games – Senegal v Netherlands and USA v Wales – are set to take place today (22 November) which will take over most of ITV’s Monday programming from 3pm until 9:15pm.

Then England’s first group game will take place from midday on BBC One the same day.

Such a huge schedule re-jig means that ITV’s Tipping Point, The Chase, Emmerdale and Coronation Street will not be broadcast.

Fans will have to wait to visit The Woolpack

However, soap fans need not despair as their favourite characters can still be seen later on in the week.

ITV is planning on airing bumper episodes on days when they aren’t airing the World Cup, which means Emmerdale will get an hour-long treatment on Tuesday (22 November) and Wednesday (23 November).

Luckily the football only delays I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! for 15 minutes from its usual 9pm slot, followed by the ITV News at 10:30pm.

Tipping Point and The Chase will be halted

However, BBC One has the biggest change as EastEnders has been completely re-homed.

BBC Two will host Albert Square on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (24 November).

The football competition that is causing the scheduling mayhem began on Sunday (20 November) with a game between Qatar and Ecuador, introduced by sports star Gary Lineker on BBC One.

Brits are eagerly anticipating the England v USA game which will take place on Friday (25 November) and has been favoured in place of the usual ITV soaps.

Although Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be delayed, I’m A Celebrity will be on soon after.

Soap fans have been left fuming at the change and many took to social media when they realised that their favourite shows will be delayed.

One tweeted Coronation Street and said: “Any word will [you] upload episodes of Emmerdale and Corrie on ITV Hub during the World Cup. ITV I hope and pray [you] do. As a fan of the soaps [I don’t want] to miss out.”
