Margot Robbie shares 'happiness' about Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn in new Joker film

Margot Robbie has given a glowing appraisal of Lady Gaga’s casting as Harley Quinn for Joker: Folie a Deux by saying she was keen to see another interpretation of the role.

The 32-year-old Hollywood actress said in an interview with MTV News that she was excited to see the 36-year-old songstress take up the mantle of the supervillain in the upcoming DC Comics film.

The Academy Award–nominated actress previously portrayed the character in both Suicide Squad movies, as well as the spinoff Birds of Prey.

Robbie said: “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters the way… like Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.”

She added that historical figures, who had been portrayed by other actresses in the past, had changed the performing landscape, including her own film Mary Queen of Scots.

She said: “I feel like, in not so many cases, are there female characters – Queen Elizabeth I, but beyond that, which I got to have a crack out as well, which I was honoured to do. I was like, ‘Wow! Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I get to.'”

The actress’ first appearance as Harley Quinn was in 2016’s Suicide Squad, reprising her role in 2020’s Birds of Prey, as well as The Suicide Squad, which played the following year.
