Michael J. Fox's emotional kiss with wife as star given honour amid Parkinson's battle

Michael J. Fox and his wife shared a sweet moment on stage as the 61-year-old kissed his wife while accepting the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

The now-retired actor, who starred in the hit movie, Back to the Future, was snapped at the 13th annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday.

At the event, the Hollywood star received the honorary Oscar for his work in creating the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

The award is given to an individual, “whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry.”

Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a nerve disorder that causes tremors and other symptoms, in 1991 at age 29.

He later quit Hollywood, curtailing his acting career by creating the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to help fund the search for a cure in 2000.

The Emmy Award-winning actor’s advocacy work has raised more than £1.3billion for research into Parkinson’s disease.

While at the event at the weekend, Michael looked as dapper as ever as he slipped into a classic and stylish black suit, paired with a white shirt and black tie.

He finished off his look with a pair of black trainers.

Michael’s wife Tracy Pollan, and the couple’s four children joined him for the occasion too.

Last month, Michael admitted that he’s “struggling” as he opened up about the number of injuries he has experienced over the past year.

In a recent interview with People, he shared that he’s recovering from numerous broken bones.

Michael admitted: “I broke my cheek, then my hand, then my shoulder, had a replacement shoulder put in and broke my [right] arm, then I broke my elbow. I’m 61 years old, and I’m feeling it a little bit more.”

The actor underwent surgery for his broken hand last year, which caused him to have balance issues and be “short [tempered] with people.”

On his recovery, he explained the last of his injuries are “healing up.”

He said: “Now, the whole mission is: Don’t fall down. So whatever works to not fall down, whether it’s a walker or a wheelchair, a cane, a guy with a belt around my waist holding onto it – I use all those tools.”

Reflecting on the past year, he added: “It’s been a struggle, but I’m happy. I say that because I hope on some level people can find happiness in spite of what they’re going through.”

Michael officially retired in 2020, saying not being able to speak reliably was a “game-breaker.”
