Only Fools and Horses' Damien Trotter star heartbroken as mum dies of Covid

The actor who played Del Boy’s adult son in Only Fools and Horses has revealed his mother has died from covid.

Douglas Hodge, who played the grown-up Damien Trotter in a BBC special in 1996, took to Twitter to announce the sad news and shared a touching picture of him kissing his mum on the forehead.

He captioned it: “My mum passed away tonight from covid. Happy Mother’s Day mumma. Xxxx.”

Douglas, 62, was in the heroes and villains special of the hit show, which aired on Christmas Day in 1996.

Del and Rodney are invited to a fancy dress party and decide to go dressed as Batman and Robin.

Douglas was also in a relationship with Tessa Peake-Jones, who played Del Boy’s long-term partner, Racquel.

The couple were together for 27 years before splitting up in 2013 and have two children.

“He was such a gentleman with us upstarts when he appeared on #RedDwarf. He just rammed his tongue firmly into his cheek and joined the party! What a legend. RIP.”

The official Red Dwarf Twitter account also rushed to pay tribute to Ron, saying: “RIP Ron Pember. A terrific character actor, stage director and dramatist who made a memorable appearance in Series II’s Better Than Life.”
