Princess Diana 'knew her power' and had a sense of 'cheekiness', says Matt Goss

Matt Goss has reflected on the time he and his brother Luke met the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

The famous brothers – who formed the group Bros – met the late Princess on March 23, 1989 during a luncheon event to help launch Capital FM’s Help a London Child appeal.

However, despite being one of the biggest stars in music, Matt revealed he was completely in awe of Prince Harry’s mum and was startled when she shared a candid revelation with him and his brother.

Speaking ahead of his headline show at the prestigious London Palladium, Matt, 53, spoke exclusively to the Daily Star.

He said: “She was humble she was kind, she was otherworldly beautiful in the fact that she knew her power.

“She kind of knew her presence, you just sensed it, there was what I felt a cheekiness, there’s a picture of us together and she was smiling.

“I think she understood her power with us, she definitely had the ability to make you blush because she was Princess Diana.”

The Better with You singer continued: “That showed humility there, that was what was beautiful about her.

“She said that she was a fan and that was insane to hear when you know these people don’t always seem real but they are and they’re lovely.

“That kind of message was lovely to have someone like that say they’re a fan.

“It’s very strange segue but me and Luke were walking down the street and Benny Elton said ‘love your movie, brilliant movie’.”

Discussing his upcoming performance, he said: “To be able to put on the Palladium as a pop-up show, that’s an amazing feeling to come back to.

“I think it’s going to be the best show of my life, I’m so ready to do an insane pop record, I’m playing all the hits, the new album, it’s going to be one song after another.

“People are just going to love it.”

Reflecting on selling thousands of tickets, he opened up: “It’s a lovely reassurance as in the fans at the end of the day, they’re the boss, sometimes when you write songs and put them together on an album there are 11 songs.

“I was obsessed with creating a contemporary pop record that could finally compete with Push and that’s what the people reviewing the record are saying.

“The fans are saying this is the record they’ve always wanted me to make since back in the day.”

Matt’s latest album The Beautiful Unknown is out now and the last remaining tickets for his Palladium show are on sale, here.
