SAS: Who Dares Wins star Remi Adeleke says show turned him into 'potty mouth'

New SAS: Who Dares Wins star Remi Adeleke has revealed the show turned him into a potty mouth because Brits love swearing so much.

Remi, who was brought up in New York, served in the elite Navy SEAL programme for 13 years after joining the US force in 2002.

But it was being around Brits on the Channel 4 show which taught him to swear like a trooper.

Remi, 39, says: “The show is where I cursed most in my life – it’s a British effect and something I’m bringing to the table for the recruits.

“In my day-to-day life I definitely don’t curse.

“I’m not perfect by any means, but I try to live as much of a straight life as possible.

“I act as well – I’ve been in a bunch of different movies, so I take off my everyday Remi hat and put on this character hat.

“This person needs to be hard and push his people past their perceived limits.”

New DS Remi is joined by ex-US Marine Rudy Reyes, 50, who replaces former chief instructor Ant Middleton – let go by Channel 4 because of his “personal conduct off camera” last year.

TV staff union Bectu received four complaints from women about the 41-year-old, accusing him of making “lewd and suggestive comments” during the making of the show.

Ant claimed he’d only ever indulged in “military banter”.

“I’ve always had the utmost respect for women,” says Remi. “I have a lot of women to keep me in line. Women are tougher than the SAS – especially in my life.

“My aunt is about to be 104 and my daughter, who is 18 months, has my heart.

“My amazing wife gave me four beautiful kids and she’s a working mum, a doctor. She’s super intelligent and better than I am in many ways. We’ve been married for going on 11 years.”

Crediting his beloved mum for making him the man he is, Remi continues: “My dad died when I was five.

“I was raised by a strong woman in the Bronx, which is a really tough area in New York.

“I put women on a high pedestal, especially from growing up in a single parent home.

“Seeing what my mom went through – all the hard work she had to endure to get me and my brother to where we are – so we could be two successful men.”

The combination of British and American styles plus a new setting in the harshest terrain of Jordan will make the upcoming series of SAS: Who Dares Wins the most gruelling so far.

West African-born Remi says: “I was very strict – no remorse my end.

“There were times when the other DS were like, ‘We’ve got to back off a little bit’ but I was like a hungry pit bull ready to jump.

“Expect the unexpected – this is definitely the toughest.

“There were times I was surprised at how tough it was and how they (the recruits) kept going.

“We threw absolutely everything at them – including the kitchen sink.

“One of the sayings I’ve had for years is: ‘You will pay the man’. All the recruits loved it when I said it. The idea is that if you cross the line you will pay for it.”

As well as SAS, Remi is currently in big screen flick Ambulance alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, 41, and has a new series of Amazon Prime’s The Terminal List with Chris Pratt, 42, out this year.

He adds: “I’m part of the Writer’s Guild of America so I’m a professional scriptwriter.

“I act, write movies – characters and development is a huge thing for me.

“I worked with Gerard Butler last year on The Plane and Jake on Ambulance but we didn’t get to hang out because of Covid.”

SAS: Who Dares Wins returns to Channel 4 on Sunday(April 10).
