Her Majesty had been residing in Balmoral, one of her favourite homes for several weeks as per her summer routine.

In recent months, the Queen has taken a step back from public life making just several appearances, her last appointing the new Prime Minister.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, her coffin will lie in state allowing her subjects to pay their last respects.

During the formal occasion, the closed coffin is placed on view in the vast, medieval Westminster Hall in the Palace of Westminster.

As Her Majesty passed away in Scotland, her coffin will lie in state for several days at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where it will be taken two days after her death.

It’s believed there are plans to include a procession along the Royal Mile in Edinburgh to St Giles’ Cathedral where it is expected that members of her family will attend a service of memorial.
