Sir Elton John could 'tour forever' as hologram as star 'says goodbye' to fans

Sir Elton John could keep touring forever as a hologram.

The Rocketman’s husband and manager David Furnish says “anything is possible” with the digital technology that is allowing Abba to tour the world as digital avatars of themselves.

David said: “I’m desperate to see the Abba Voyage show. Anything is possible with the technology – we’re going to sit down and have discussions after the tour.”

Elton, 75, is due to wind up his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour next July after 329 shows – and David insists he will not be going back on the road in the flesh.

He said: “That will be it, no more touring, we will be well and truly finished. He wants to say goodbye to his fans properly.

“We’re both finding it harder to be away from our children. We spent so much time together in lockdown – it was a blessing and a gift because it deepened the connection we have with our children so profoundly.

“He wants a big break. That doesn’t rule out a one-off, or going into a different type of venue to do something different to what we’ve done before.”

The prospect of Elton transforming himself into a holographic performer using Abba-style age reduction, 3D and green screen effects, comes despite the performer being a tech dinosaur when David became his manager.

David, who shares sons Elijah, nine, and Zachary, 11, with the singer, said: “He didn’t understand the digital world. He didn’t even have a computer.

“There had never been a business plan for Elton. Everyone just kept the plates spinning. No one in his organisation had really ever uttered the word ‘digital’.

“To turn a supertanker like Elton and restructure your whole business so you just don’t have that dependence on one source of income – touring – takes time.”

Elton’s tour is set to be the final one of his career.

Ahead of his final show, he thanked his fans for their support throughout his lengthy career, previously tweeting: “hank you for sharing this journey with me.

“I cherish these memories we’re making together. It has been nothing short of incredible and I look forward to seeing you very soon one last time, on my Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.”
