Strictly Come Dancing announces football legend Tony Adams for 2022 line-up

Strictly Come Dancing have announced the latest celebrity to sign up to this year’s show – and it’s Arsenal and England football legend Tony Adams.

The 55-year-old sporting icon will be trading the football pitch for the dancefloor as he gears up to take to the ballroom later this year.

With a footballing career of over 22 years, Tony has captained both Arsenal and England teams – with him being dubbed as one of Arsenal’s “greatest ever players”.

Speaking about joining the glitzy show in the press release posted on the BBC website, Tony said: “To say I’m excited is an understatement – the lure of the sequins and the call of the salsa has me swapping my battered old football boots for a set of Strictly soft shoes.

“Am absolutely thrilled to be giving it my all on this year’s 20th anniversary of Strictly Come Dancing. I can’t wait to meet my partner – god help her – and start the dancing.”

With Strictly Come Dancing announcing the news on their Twitter page, fans were quick to flood the comments section with messages of joy and excitement.

Not only were fans overjoyed at the news, but many pointed out that Tony is the third contestant to sign up for this year’s series with the surname Adams.

“That’s 3 celebs with the surname Adams this is going to get very confusing. Welcome to the show Tony Adams enjoy the #Strictly experience,” noted one fan of the show.

While another echoed: “3 people with the last name Adams,” complete with a laughing emoji.

And a third said: “Pleased with this choice. Also given that this is the third contestant with the surname Adams, #Strictly should consider an Addams Family themed group dance to open the show at this rate.”

The news of Tony signing up for the dancing competition comes after children’s TV presenter, Molly Rainford, 21, was announced this morning.

Molly shot to fame in 2012 when she appeared on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent at just 11 years of age.

Tony and Molly join Will Mellor, Kym Marsh, Richie Anderson, Kaye Adams, Jayde Adams, Ellie Simmonds, Tyler West, Matt Goss and Ellie Taylor – with more likely to be announced very soon.
