The Voice winner exposes backstage secrets – 'long days' and keeping show outfits

The Voice winner Anthonia Edwards has opened up on the behind the scenes secrets from the show and revealed the lengthy wait times between performances.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Anthonia admitted that the cast were subject to “long” days in rehearsals and training.

She explained: “I had a bit of a mantra, just to be myself and do my best. I’m big on deep breathing and getting into a meditative state because we had long waits between performing. Some of the days were really long.”

To deal with the periods of waiting, Edwards said she “conserved her energy” and had “a lot of moments of deep breathing and mindfulness” before she broke down a typical day on set.

Anthonia deservedly won the series

Anthonia revealed: “For each episode, it was quite different. It would be along the lines of, maybe a soundcheck, […] a moment with your vocal coach, the performance, the long awaited actual performance! They all had a mixture, but it was quite different.”

“Depending on your place in the order would depend on when you left, really. No-one left at the same time.”

One backstage moment left the series’ winner giddy as she crossed paths with her mentor Tom Jones.

The cast were subject to long days backstage

“He made it feel like no-one else was there. Obviously, producers, makeup artists, were all over, but he made it as though there was no-one else there, like I had nothing to worry about.”

Anthonia’s win was so overwhelming that the singer had to take drastic measures to keep herself grounded.

She admitted: “I’ve been avoiding my phone, for today at least. Tom Grennan was lovely at the callbacks, he was like: ‘I need to sing with you!’ So, I might chase him up on that. I’ll see what the future holds. We’ll see what happens.”

Anthonia also admitted that she got to keep the stunning outfits that she wore on the show and refused to call them costumes, instead branding them “moments”.

She explained: “These were absolute moments that we got to embody for the night. We had an awesome stylist called Gayle Rinkoff, they said we could keep the clothes so I was pretty chuffed at that!”

“We got to keep them. It was pretty cool, to get that out of it too.”
