Tipping Point fans fume as they accuse show of ‘bending rules' after coin mishap

Tipping Point fans have blasted the show for “bending the rules” after a rare mishap with the coin machine.

As players Les, Gerard, Christine and Ryan all took their chance on the giant coin machine, Les managed to bag a correct answer and have a go at winning some cash.

In the rules of the game, the player chooses out fo the four drop zones and that zone is lit up.

The player then hits their buzzer and drops their coin into the machine.

After Les hit her buzzer, having already lit up her chosen drop zone, some ambient coins from the shelf fell down into the collectors pot, before her coin had touched them.

But Ben Shephard quickly told her that those counters would not count towards her prize, despite her counter having already dropped onto the shelf.

“Sadly, Les, those first two counters that fell, fell before you were in control of the machine so we’re gonna have to void those.”

But fans at hoe blasted the decision as unfair, saying she was in control of the machine when they dropped.

“#tippingpoint the counter was down? What the f*** ?!,” blasted one viewer.

“Drop zone chosen and lit up should mean all the counters count,” another agreed, while a third said: “The coin was dropping cheating buggers #tippingpoint.”

Les did manage to maintain her lead despite the coins being taken from her prize fund, making it into the final two against Christine.

She held onto the top spot bagging £2100 over Christine’s £1500 taking her into the final.

A similar incident took place earlier this year after player Gemma was given the boot prematurely because of a technical rule.

The pretty blonde player was dropped from Ben Shephard’s show when an ambient drop led to her missing out on collecting a heap of counters because her timer was up.

The glitch in the drop led to her not collecting enough money to remain in the show and being axed before she had any real play opportunity.

Irate viewers then took to Twitter to air their disappointment and demand a rule change as they were left feeling that Gemma had been robbed.

One wrote: “Gemma has got to be the unluckiest contestant ever. Those counters took too long to drop and that’s what cost her the game. Gutted for her.”

A second angry fan waded in: “The problem is, if they don’t have a cut-off point, a contestant could be waiting minutes hoping for counters to drop that were never going to, which would disrupt the flow of the game. I suppose though they could wait until Ben starts asking the next question.”

Tipping Point airs weekdays from 4pm on ITV1.
