BBC Breakfast hosts emotional as they open up on death of 'brilliant' co-star

BBC Breakfast presenters Sally Nugent and Nina Warhurst were left battling their emotions as they opened up on the death of their “brilliant” late co-star.

On Wednesday (January 25), Sally and Nina were hosting the programme together when a segment arose about Bill Turnbull’s daughter Flora, who is running the London Marathon in memory of her dad.

She’s attempting to raise awareness of prostate cancer after Bill sadly lost his battle with the disease last August at the age of 66.

Flora admitted: “Losing dad was obviously such a big thing for us and our family. I think first of all I wanted to have a purpose this year, and to remember Dad in the most purposeful way possible.

“This felt like I could pay tribute to him in a way that was personal to him, because he ran the marathon a few times, and also to highlight this cause for Prostate Cancer UK.”

She is also listening to her dad’s favourite artist as she trains for the event.

Meanwhile, Sally and Nina back in the studio were emotional as they discussed working with the legendary presenter, as Sally commented: “He was our boss for a long time, but he really loved the boss, Bruce Springsteen. Very much. So it’s lovely to hear from Flora that she’s listening to Bruce as she runs.”

Nina chimed in: “I didn’t know Bill nearly as well as you did, but his outward persona on TV and gregarious character… it’s interesting what Flora was saying, that he was very private.

“So for him to campaign for prostate cancer when it was out of his comfort zone – but he did it!”

Sally agreed: “Really private, really, really wise. He always had the best advice. He knew what to do in any crisis, he was super calm. Just really good at life advice.”

Bill even gave his daughter Flora advice on what to do during a break-up, which Nina dubbed a “brilliant dad moment, to say to your daughter, ‘Rely on yourself’.”

“We really miss him,” Sally confessed during a quiet moment.
