BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay tells viewers 'goodbye' after co-star's hosting jibe

Jon Kay looked like he was about to leave BBC Breakfast early on Tuesday morning (March 7) after a chat with his co-star Carol Kirkwood.

The 53-year-old broadcaster made it seem like he was ready to walk out of the studio way before 9am, when the BBC One programme was meant to finish.

Jon joked that weather forecaster Carol might as well take over the whole programme and have his job as BBC Breakfast host while she was at it.

It was because Carol had so many dramatic snow updates to tell viewers about that she wouldn’t have enough time to fit it all in.

It comes as yellow weather warnings have been issued across England, Scotland, Wales and Norther Ireland between Tuesday and Friday with snow and ice hitting the UK.

And Carol told viewers: “This potentially is going to be the coldest night of this year so far.”

Brits can expect snow and ice and temperatures set to drop as low as -15C (5F), which would top the current lowest temperature of -10.4C (13.3F) back in January.

Carol said: “We’ll see some more snow later on in the evening, but I’ll have a longer forecast where we’ll take a deeper look into the week in about half an hour. Tina and Jon.”

Jon said: “I think we’re going to need a longer forecast. I think you can half an hour, I think. You still wouldn’t get through it!”

Carol then joked that she’d love to bag herself a bigger weather slot, replying: “The rest of the programme? I like the sound of that, Jon.”

Jon then waved ‘goodbye’ to viewers, quipping: “Alright, I’ll see you everybody!”

Jon’s usual co-host Sally Nugent was missing from the show on Tuesday so she was replaced by Tina Daheley.

Jon and Sally normally present Breakfast together from Monday to Thursday.
