BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty still missing from show as rarely seen star steps in

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty was absent from the red sofa on Friday (April 21) as a rarely seen star stepped in to replace her.

The presenter, 48, usually helms the morning programme from Thursday to Saturday alongside regular co-host Charlie Stayt, but was missing for the final instalment of the week.

Taking over her spot was Rachel Burden who fans will recognise as one of the stars who presents BBC Breakfast on the weekend.

This isn’t the first time Naga has been replaced this week as Nina Warhurst joined forces with Charlie, 60, on Thursday (April 20) to present fans with the top headlines of the day.

Commenting on the shake-up, one fan took to social media to praise Rachel, 48, as she took up the position.

“No Naga Hagger Good….also Rachel Burden…proper journalist,” the viewer shared.

A second added: “Rachel scrubbed up well today #BBCBreakfast.”

It is not known why the radio presenter has been unable to host the show this week, but many BBC Breakfast stars like Naga have busy broadcasting schedules which means they can’t always sit on the red sofa.

As well as BBC Breakfast, Naga hosts her own Radio 5 Live phone-in show from Monday to Wednesday, where she chats to viewers about the latest issues facing the country.

It comes after Jane Dougall made a cheeky age dig aimed at Naga and Charlie as they resumed their hosting spot after Easter on Friday (April 14).

The sports correspondent spoke about the latest updates in the cricketing world and said how the team has “78 years of experience”.

Sharing the sports update, Jane said: “78 years experience on the pitch there, I love it. I love that the older players are showing the younger players how it’s done.”

Naga responded: “Don’t ever underestimate experience.”

“Exactly there’s a coach full of it here,” as she nodded towards Naga and Charlie.

Looking astounded, Naga scoffed: “Thanks Jane, we’re old, thanks.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One from 6am
