BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent replaced by co-star as she's missing from sofa

BBC Breakfast underwent another shake-up this week as presenter Sally Nugent was missing from her usual spot on the red sofa.

Sally normally hosts the show with co-star Jon Kay from Monday to Thursday every week, but she was absent from the studio on Tuesday morning (March 8).

Viewers have become used to seeing Sally and Jon provide them with the latest headlines from the bright and early time of 6am every day.

But they were in for a surprise on Tuesday as Sally’s fellow BBC presenter Nina Warhurst had stepped in for Sally and appeared in the studio with Jon.

It took some of the pressure off of Jon as it meant he didn’t have to host the programme all by himself.

And the show was in good hands as Nina is one of BBC Breakfast’s relief presenters, who get drafted in when the main presenters are unavailable.

At the time of writing, it was unclear why Sally was unable to host the show, but she took to Twitter on Monday night to praise her pal Rob Burrow MBE.

The former Leeds Rhinos star, who lives with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), met PM Rishi Sunak and was awarded the Points of Light award for his MND campaigning work.

Sally tweeted: “Very proud of the @BBCBreakfast team and @Rob7Burrow. First Downing Street to meet @RishiSunak then the @SportSJA awards. Rob deserves all these awards and a million more.”

Rob Burrow also won Documentary of the Year at the SJA Awards for his documentary Living With MND, which was aired on BBC Breakfast.

It’s not the first time Sally was replaced this week as she was also missing on Monday’s show, which meant Tina Daheley replaced her.

Nina first joined BBC Breakfast in 2018 and was made BBC Breakfast’s main business presenter in October 2020.

She took over the role from Steph’s Packed Lunch Host Steph McGovern, who now presents over at Channel 4.
