BBC Naga Munchetty's co-star begged bosses to cut her off as she 'wouldn't let joke go'

Gethin Jones has revealed he was “dying of embarrassment” when Naga Munchetty kept mocking him on-air one day – and wouldn’t give it a rest.

But it’s all love now, because the Morning Live host admitted that BBC Breakfast presenter Naga has a great sense of humour and always manages to keep him on his toes.

Gethin, 45, spoke to Daily Star ahead of his Red Nose Day dancing challenge that saw him attempt 24 hours of dancing in the Morning Live Studio from Thursday (March 16) until Red Nose Day on Friday.

Gethin and golf-lover Naga don’t just chat to each-other at work, because the hit the golf course together last week to have a catch up.

He said: “I’m playing golf with Naga next Thursday after this challenge to have a bit of a catch up. She’s always funny. She keeps you on your toes.”

But the Welsh presenter admitted he was mortified when she tried to make him dance in front of pop group Steps.

Back in 2021, Naga repeatedly tried to get Gethin to dance in front of Steps as they were in the BBC Breakfast studio.

Egging him on, she said: “Go on, we’ve got an audience for you,” but Gethin insisted he couldn’t dance, hitting back: “I can’t dance on my own, my experience of Strictly, I can only dance with a professional partner.”

And when she kept pressing him to perform, Gethin ended up begging producers to cut her off.

Recalling the moment, Gethin said: “Naga just wouldn’t let it go, we were waiting for it to cut back to them,” before adding: “I was just dying of embarrassment.”

But Naga’s not the only BBC Breakfast presenter who likes to mock Gethin as he admitted Sally loves to tease him, too.

When asked about the time Sally teased Gethin about finishing third place on Strictly back in 2007, a giggling Gethin added: “To be fair to Sal’, that’s one of the nicest things she’s ever said to me.”

Red Nose Day will air Friday March 17th from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
