Channel 4 fans fume at ‘ancient’ Celeb Gogglebox repeat dubbing it ‘insensitive’

Gogglebox fans were slamming the latest episode of the show after Channel 4 aired an “ancient” repeat of the celebrity version of the show from 2021.

The popular series sees celebrities pair up with their loved ones to tune into some of the latest TV shows.

But while fans were promised a “best bits” recap of the show, there were left fuming after the network chose to air an episode from way back in 2021.

The comments came in thick and fast.

“Celebrity Gogglebox from 2021…. why… just why?” asked one fan.

“Bloody repeat again. What’s the point? The programmes weren’t on this week for us to share the amusing comments, and most of us have probably already heard this lots amusing quips last year,” penned a second.

“Are you having a laugh? 2021 repeat of #gogglebox in prime time? Stop hoodwinking us….,” penned a third, and: “F*** off Channel 4 showing a two year old repeat.”

Fans also blasted the show as “insensitive” after Denise Van Outen could be seen sitting next to her ex-boyfriend, Eddie Boxhall, with the two having split on bad terms since the show aired.

“I thought Denise Van O had split from that bloke. She’s with somebody else now. A bit insensitive of Channel 4,” one fan blasted.

“Poor Denise, she’s not even with him anymore! 2021 repeat of Celebrity Gogglebox in prime time!” said another.

A third griped: “It was only when I saw Denise Van Outen snuggling up to her cheating ex boyfriend that I realised this was a repeat,” while a fourth penned: “The budget cuts at Channel 4 are apparent with them showing Gogglebox from 2021.”

Dame Maureen Lipman has announced she quit the series because bosses didn’t like her jokes.

The Coronation Street star appeared alongside This Morning regular Gyles Brandreth in 2020, where she had replaced Dame Sheila Hancock.

However, soon she decided to quit the series herself after claiming producers didn’t like her humour.

Maureen quit Gogglebox last year because she felt there was too much of a focus on naked bodies in shows, and she said all of her ‘scenes’ shown on the Channel 4 show was just her yawning, rather than her funny jokes.

Speaking about her exit from the programme, she told the Radio Times last year: “I went in imagining that they wanted me for my wit and my brain.

“Of course, they just want to show you willies and for you to be shocked. Honestly, we were really funny together, but none of that was used. And if they don’t want to use what we gave them, f*** them.

“It is from my point of view. I’m sure they’ll put someone else with Gyles,” she said of what was to come in the future.
