EastEnders’ Gillian Taylforth branded ‘ageless’ as she marks incredible milestone

EastEnders fans rushed to praise Gillian Taylforth as she marked 2000 episodes on the BBC soap as iconic Kathy Beale.

In a new video released on the Twitter account of the soap as Gillian was presented with her co-stars celebrating her 2000th episode.

She was joined by Danielle Harold who plays Lola Pearce, Honey Mitchell actress Emma Barton and Natalie Cassidy who plays Sonia Fowler.

Gillian told the camera: “I was told the director wanted to see me, and when I got out, there was a crowd of people waiting and clapping with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

“I thought ‘what have I done? It’s not my birthday until August’ and then I was told I had just reached my 2000th episode. I couldn’t believe it.”

Gillian was then heard saying to her co-workers: “Thank you for bringing me back from the dead to complete my 2,000th episode,” before hugging everyone.

She added: “I have enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve loved playing the part of Kathy. Here’s to the next 2,000 and wouldn’t that be lovely.”

Fans quickly rushed to the post to compliment Gillian and congratulate her on the milestone.

One said: “Ageless queen.”

Another added: “You look incredible” as a third chipped in: “Wow! She is a legend!”

A fourth wrote: “What an achievement…..very proud of her…..what a legend!”

Kathy first appeared on the very first episode of the soap in 1985 and was part of some dramatic storylines with Nasty Nick Cotton and her secret daughter Donna Ludlow.

Kathy was killed in a car crash off-screen in 2006, six years after her dramatic departure in 2000.

However, she made a dramatic return from the dead during the 2015 live week after revealing her husband Gavin Sullivan had forced her to fake her death.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC1.
