'EastEnders Kat Slater's steamy sex life paid for my children's education,' says TV star

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has revealed that Kat Slater’s “steamy sex life” helped put his kids through school.

The Changing Rooms icon exclusively told us that he has an EastEnders set decorator to thank for this after they chose one of his bed sheets for the soap star’s room.

Kat is played by actress Jessie Wallace – and back in her heyday was often caught in a saucy situation.

Laurence first got on the topic of EastEnders after he shared that his grandchildren call him ‘Guvnor’ which makes him feel like an EastEnders soap villain.

The interior design pro explained: “Yeah it’s guvnor and it works really well with the grandchildren and they call me Guvvy, and my wife Jackie is Gags.

“I have no problem with people called grandfather like a clock or grandpa like a flat cap but guvnor just sort of fit.

“Just about everyone who works in the design business calls me it now. It’s kind of like being on EastEnders, I feel like an honourary Mitchell.”

When asked if he would ever go on the show, he said: “I don’t think they could afford me sadly, plus I’m quite bad at accents and also I’m absolutely terrible at scripts. So, genuinely speaking there are a lot of reasons why I wouldn’t flourish at EastEnders but if they want me to give it a go then I can try, maybe for a Christmas special.”

He then confessed: I have to say I had a range of bed linen, it was my first range of bed linen design, and it went through the roof because the set decorator bought a set for Kat Slater.

“It was back in the day when she was a steamy sex siren and she was rolling all over my duvet and the sales paid for my children’s education, it was incredible.

“The funny thing is it said ‘pure’ on one side with white roses, and the other side said ‘pure sex’ with red roses. It was very successful.”

Laurence is currently working with The Ideal Home Show which is running now until April 2, at Olympia London.

Talking about the event, he said: “The Ideal Home Show is very juicy this year – people are flocking. I think homes have become such an incredibly important part of our lives since lockdown – it’s more important to express your personality and the Ideal Home Show is such an extraordinary barometer of the way people feel about the way they live.”

The Ideal Home Show, in partnership with Sky Glass, is the world’s longest-running home and interiors exhibition and is returning to Olympia London from Friday 17th March until Sunday 2nd April.
