Now, the 27-year-old looks unrecognisable – not surprising seeing as he first set foot on Albert Square asked just 11.

After calling it quits from EastEnders in 2015, James has ventured down a rather different career path – bagging a 9 to 5 job.

Eight years on since leaving the show, he now works as a builder and looks worlds away from the young Butcher kid that got up to all sorts of shenanigans.

James – who goes by jfordee on Instagram – has more than 40,000 followers on the photo-sharing platform.

On Friday (May 26) James shared an unrecognisable selfie where the actor-turned-builder looked worlds away from his soap role.

With his face looking slimmer and his jaw-line more pronounced – James rocked plenty of stubble and opted for a buzz cut hair style.

Posing for the snap he penned: “Ginger beard wishing you all a happy Friday.”

The character of Liam rocked back up to Albert Square in 2021 – but he was actually portrayed by a different actor: Alfie Deegan.

Viewers of the hit BBC One soap saw Liam Butcher back in Watford once again after he formally left the long-standing show in back in 2015.

James addressed his replacement last year when fans were left fuming and outraged that he wasn’t heading back on the show.

Taking to Twitter he said: “Appreciate the love people but don’t be upset.

“I chose myself to be a builder and not an actor and I am genuinely happier than ever right now. Do what works for you and be happy.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
