Ex-Corrie star ‘gutted’ not to be asked back as she lands role in rival BBC show

Former Coronation Street star Katherine Pearce has admitted she was “gutted” when bosses never asked her back on the soap.

The actress played “b***hy” Lolly on the long-running ITV soap from March 2019 until February 2019.

As the jealous and controlling pal of Kate Connor (Faye Brookes), she rocked up to the cobbles and caused plenty of drama for Kate and her missus Rana Nazir (Bhavna Limbachia).

And while the character certainly ruffled a few feathers on-screen – it appears bosses were not too keen to bring her back.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Kat shared her disappointment at not being asked to return to the soap – but it’s not all bad news, as she’s since bagged a role in a rival BBC One show.

“Corrie was a thing I always wanted to do because my mum had watched it since she was a little girl, and her mum had watched it” she revealed.

“It’s still on every week, she never misses it. So it was really important for me to do that for my mum,” she added.

Recalling her experience on the cobbles, Kat revealed: “It’s an absolute machine, they know exactly what they’re doing – how they’re filming it, the timescales they’ve got and yeh directors are all on top of it.”

As for her thoughts on her infamous character, Kat said: “I thought Lolly was great – a bit of old school Corrie – in the same vein as Maureen Lipman, a bit larger than life.”

She went on: “I’ve got quite a cute innocent face too so I hardly ever get to play b*ches so I really did relish it.”

However, despite her great time on-set, Kat was not asked back by show bosses.

“I was gutted they didn’t bring me back,” she revealed.

Referring to her character, she joked: “Maybe they didn’t want a b*tch at that time.”

But it’s not all bad news for Kat – the TV star has since bagged a role in the hit BBC show Waterloo Road, playing Amy Spratt.

Kat joined the cast this year, when BBC brought the beloved coming-of-age series back to TV screens after eight years off air.

Teasing what fans can expect from Amy in the brand new second series, which premiered in May, Kat said: “A lot of growing, a lot of trying and failing, trying and failing.”

She added: “A lot of triumph over adversity, just as a new teacher finding how you do it, how you deal with staff and life.”
