GMB’s Susanna Reid steps in as Richard Madeley says ‘oh no’ after Strictly curse blunder

Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid had no choice but to correct Richard Madeley after he made a Strictly Come Dancing ‘curse’ blunder.

The duo presented Wednesday’s (October 18) instalment of the morning programme and welcomed Strictly stars Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima into the studio to discuss their journey on the BBC series so far. The former Love Island star, 26, spoke about everything from being in the dreaded dance off to what boyfriend Sam Thompson sees behind the scenes.

Following the interview, the 67-year-old turned to his co-star and quipped: “They made a lovely couple didn’t they?” Susanna responded: “Didn’t they! They are doing really really” before stopping mid-sentence as she exclaimed: “Not a couple couple.”

It comes after Richard offered an apology following uproar from fans who demanded he be removed from the ITV programme. During Tuesday’s episode (October 17), Richard and Susanna were joined by Layla Moran, the Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West & Abingdon.

She called for an end to the siege on Gaza and shared her concerns about her relatives being stuck in the city. The TV star then questioned whether the British-Palestinian MP whether she had heard advanced warnings about Hamas’s attacks on Israel.

He asked: “With your family connections in Gaza, did you have any indication of what was going to happen ten days ago, two weeks ago? Was there there any word on the street?”

Moran replied: “Not this, not this,” before insisting everyone was surprised by the attacks. Following the strong reaction from viewers who called for Richard’s departure from the show, a spokesperson for ITV released a statement.

It said: “Richard is sorry that he has upset viewers with his question to Layla Moran. His intention was to understand the mood and atmosphere amongst the civilian population of Gaza immediately before the attacks.

The statement continued: “He asked Layla about her family in Gaza City because she had discussed speaking to them earlier in the interview. He did not mean to imply that she or her family might have had any prior knowledge of the attacks.”
