Gogglebox viewers fume as Channel 4 stars have no idea who mega-famous author is

Gogglebox fans were left gobsmacked on Friday (March 31) after show favourites Abbie and Georgia failed to realise who author Charles Dickens is.

The hit Channel 4 show was back on TV screens on Friday for another instalment of our favourite Brits who give their take on the latest bits on the telly.

But things took a slightly awkward turn when the cast watched a clip from BBC’s mini-series, Great Expectations – based on one of Dickens’ hit novels.

While watching the flip, Geordie babes Abbie and Georgia struggled to decipher who the famous novelist was.

“Do you know who Charles Dickens is?” Abbie asked her bestie.

Gogglebox fans were left in stitches

“Do I hell,” Georgia hit back, to which Abbie hilariously, and incorrectly, responded: “I think he writes a book called Twit and T**t.”

Both of the women seemed completely confused as they tried to work out who wrote Twit and T**t.

It didn’t take long for viewers to react to their hilarious moment, with many flooding to Twitter to share their thoughts.

“The gogglebox cast probably think Charles Dickens is a porn star…,” wrote one fan.

Another added: “I’m sorry, you can’t live in England and not have heard of Charles Dickens-Twist is a school staple. 5 different versions of Christmas Carol are on every year. What school did these girls go to?”

“Gogglebox I am in despair – do none of these people know Charles Dickens, even less, read any of his books??” raged a third viewer.

Someone else penned: “Imagine never having heard of Charles Dickens.”

Charles Dickens was one of the world’s famous novelists

“That classic Charles Dickens classic “twit n twat,” a fifth joked.

Another person chimed in and said: “Why are they all acting as if they have zero clue about Great Expectations? They must know the story!! They must have heard of it!”

“Even I know who Charles Dickens is,” raged a sixth viewer.

Charles Dickens was born in 1812 and created some of the most iconic fictional characters ever, including Oliver Twist and Ebenezer Scrooge.

In other Abbie and Georgia news, the latter recently made an announcement about her career away from appearing on TV screens.

The 22-year-old first shot to fame in 2018 when she appeared on the Channel 4 show alongside her best pal Abbie.

Georgia shared her future plans

And like her fellow Gogglebox stars, Georgia has a day job away from filming the show.

The TV star is a hairdresser who works in a salon, but since welcoming her first baby, last year, she has been on maternity leave.

And last week she issued a statement regarding her career and what that looks like for the future.

She told her Instagram followers that she won’t be going back to hairdressing once her maternity leave comes to an end.
