Homer Simpson will carry on strangling son Bart despite fears of woke rethink

Homer Simpson is set to carry on strangling his son Bart in future episodes despite fears of a woke rethink.

James L. Brooks, co-creator of The Simpsons, has dismissed suggestions of a change. Since its 1989 launch, an angry Homer has regularly choked his kid while screaming “why you little!”. But in a recent episode, after he is complimented for his handshake, Homer tells wife Marge: “Strangling the boy has paid off. Just kidding. I don’t do that any more. Times have changed.”

Many fans thought it meant the deadbeat dad wouldn’t be wrapping his hands around his boy’s throat any more but James insisted: “Don’t think for a second we’re changing anything. Nothing’s getting tamed. Nothing, nothing, nothing. He’ll continue to be strangled – if you want to use that awful term for it. He’ll continue to be loved by his father in a specific way.”

The last time Homer was seen throttling his son was in Season 31, which aired between 2019 and 2020. The show’s makers 20th Century Animation have not officially commented on Homer’s method of discipline. But The Simpsons X page shared an animation of the pair and wrote: “Homer Simpson was unavailable for comment as he was busy strangling Bart.”

It comes after one of the show’s most well-known characters was killed off as the series sees a major shake-up. Sideshow Bob has been one of the most iconic characters as he tries and fails to kill the Simpsons son Bart. Bob has been after the young troublemaker ever since a foiled plot by the actor to frame Krusty the Clown back in the 1990s.

Since then, Sideshow Bob – voiced by Frasier star Kelsey Grammer – has been vowing to kill Bart, taking aim at both him and his loved ones, having nearly killed his aunt Selma. Now, in the newest Treehouse of Horror episode, sister Lisa finally puts an end to Sideshow Bob’s murderous ways by killing him herself.

In the spooky Halloween episode, Bob – whose real name is Robert Terwilliger – has successfully managed to off Bart, and has since been caught and thrown in jail. Lisa, Bart’s sister, has grown up and gone into the crime business, becoming an expert in true crime.

Initially, Lisa hires Bob to help her solve cases by getting into the psyche of a murderer. But it is later revealed that Lisa has developed a split personality, which leads to the more malicious side of her killing Bob off herself. Fans watching the episode were thrilled to see the back of the long time villain.
