“There will be more comedy and more drama. Six weeks after the show starts, there will be a big storyline it’s about the two-year gap and it’s amazing.

The TV star also confirmed that it certainly feels different to be back on set – with some old and new faces, after the show was pulled from screens for two years until it found a new channel.

Alan shared: “It feels very different coming back, the bar has been lifted, everybody is working 10% harder, it looks better and it’s just great. It’s about the Neighbours we know and love – but bigger and better. You’ve seen a lot of the spoilers already, but there is a big wedding with a twist, new families, and there is so much to look forward to.”

The actor, 66, recently appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain to help promote the new series which is being aired on Amazon Freevee.

Alan told viewers: “They put the ship into drydock and went about our lives. Yeah. And suddenly we’re back and it’s a bit of a blessing because when we came back, it gave us the opportunity to say we can do a reboot.

“We were like ‘How can we make the show better? How can we make it more interesting? What can we do for the sets to be revamped? How can we shoot and so forth?’ So we’ve now got a fantastic new look on the programme.”

New episodes of Neighbours drop every Monday to Thursday from 7am on Amazon Freevee
