There have been plenty of steamy moments in Hollywood films – but this year’s Oscar nominees have made a number of sex confessions away from our screens too.

Whether they were spilling backstage secrets about a steamy scene, talking about their embarrassing on-screen moments or making candid bedroom confessions, the nominees have certainly surprised fans in recent years.

The stars have also spoken out against criticism for their sex scenes – and the moment where one star did not get a “full-frontal nudity” moment due to a behind the scenes mishap.

Best actor nominee Colin Farrell revealed his most embarrassing sex scene of all time during an appearance on the Ellen Show.

The star made the candid admission to raise money for charity, after Ellen agreed $10,000 would be donated to Colin’s chosen charity (CHIME Institute, California) if he revealed something he had never told anyone.

Colin explained he did not get a full-frontal nudity moment in his first ever sex scene, after a mishap trimming his pubic hair.

“I went up to the director, Joel Schumacher, and I had a dressing gown on and nothing underneath…” said Colin.

“I was obviously so nervous that I lost my mind for a second. I opened my dressing gown and said, ‘It’s a bit…’ I had what you’d refer to as ‘retro bush’

“Joel, the director, kind of went, ‘Eww,’ so I said, ‘Ok, I’ll trim it.”

However, it did not go to plan, with Colin saying: “I overshot the mark a little bit, so I had to get back in and approach the right again.”

“I overshot that and by this stage I was sweating and I went back in and reapproached the landing on the left and then I looked down, and I had a little landing strip.”

He left the talk show audience in hysterics, as he concluded: “Lovely, lovely. I didn’t get my full frontal, after all.”

“They would say ‘Janie’, which didn’t last very long,” explained the actress.

However after sharing the story with her husband, Christopher decided to use the name in the bedroom, with Jamie continuing to say it “cracks her up.”

“My husband will—in moments of great intimacy, when you are not trying to laugh, if you know what I mean—when are you going for something else, Christopher will look at me and say, ‘Oh, Janie.'”

The star, who is once again nominated for Best Leading Actress, appeared on The Ellen Show just one day after winning her prestigious award, saying that she “slept next to two men” the previous night.

She then explained that the two men were her husband and the Oscar statue, joking: “It’s the closest that my husband and I have ever come to a threesome.”

Speaking to Access Hollywood Live, Angela explained she first met Lady Gaga during a party she held for the cast and crew.

“She brought me out a birthday cake, because it happened to be my birthday, and this cake… (I was shocked) with what she’s doing to me on this cake… It was an X-rated cake… She came up (to me) and I said, ‘Would that be foreplay?'”

Their two characters later appeared in a steamy scene together, with Angela making an admission about Lady Gaga’s kissing technique.

“They said, ‘Cut!’, and I jumped and she said, ‘Now that’s the fastest anyone’s jumped out of the bed (with me)'”, adding: “She’s a good kisser!”

Best Lead Actress nominee Michelle Williams spoke out against a backlash over a controversial sex scene in 2010 film Blue Jasmine.

During the scene, co-star Ryan Gosling performs oral sex on Michelle which sparked a classification ratings battle in America. The film was eventually downgraded to R rating.

Speaking to The Guardian at the time, Ryan said: “The sex felt real – it wasn’t sexy or ‘a sex scene’, and that’s why we got into trouble. You shouldn’t be penalised for doing a good job.”

Meanwhile, Michelle spoke out against the backlash during an interview with Reuters saying she was “proud to be the first” person to do that in a film as she had “never seen that before in a movie.”

She said: “I thought, ‘I’ve never seen that before in a movie and I’m proud to be the first’.

“Good on us for making that happen.”

Michelle added: “As the woman in the situation that was in question, I found absolutely nothing scandalous, tawdry or disgusting about it.”

Bra mishap

Best Lead actor nominee Paul Mescal rose to fame as Connell in BBC drama Normal People, alongside Daisy Edgar Jones as Marianne.

The character’s intimate moments included Marianne losing her virginity to Paul, with Intimacy co-ordinator Ita O’Brien working closely with the actors to ensure that they felt comfortable, and that their actions looked truthful.

There were also extensive rehearsals that involved everyone who would be on set on the day of filming, including members of the crew who would cover the actors with clothing the moment the director called “cut.”

However, Paul Mescal revealed that one part of the scene was improvised, saying that he actually forgot how to undo co-star Daisy’s bra strap.

The actor told Vanity Fair: “I forgot how to do it, and we got into a bit of a tandem without trying to…I think that’s a really nice moment in the scene,” he said.

Speaking about the scene, co-star Daisy added that the moments felt “truthful,” saying: “One of the things that’s pretty powerful about that scene is there’s an element of asking for protection in that moment.

“I don’t think often you see lovemaking scenes with those elements, because I think for some reason we feel that that would break the moment or take away from the raciness of it.

“But it really adds to it, because it’s truthful to what an actual first-time relationship should be like when it comes to Connell making sure Marianne is safe. But also that Marianne feels she’s able to ask for protection and not feel embarrassed by that.”
