Paddy McGuinness looks glum as he's seen for first time since Top Gear axe confirmed

Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness was seen looking glum after the BBC confirmed that filming for the current series had been stopped.

The channel announced the news earlier this week, after Paddy’s co-star Freddie Flintoff was involved in a horror smash in December that saw him airlifted to hospital.

Paddy, 49, was seen at the Heart Breakfast Radio Studios on Friday with his usual smile nowhere to be seen.

He exited the studios and seemed to avoid looking directly at waiting photographers, instead fixing his gaze on the floor.

The comedian was seen wearing a casual outfit of blue denim jeans, a white t-shirt and a black bomber jacket.

He carried a black coat and Louis Vuitton hold-all as he made his way from the radio studio.

Paddy had been on the show alongside hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, but there was no talk of Top Gear.

He instead spoke about his friendship with fellow comedian Peter Kay, with him saying Peter had given him a private “full routine” of his ongoing stand-up show.

On Thursday (March 23), the BBC confirmed that filming for series 34 of Top Gear would not be continuing.

A statement said: ” Under the circumstances, we feel it would be inappropriate to resume making series 34 of Top Gear at this time.

“We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we’ll make a judgment about how best to continue later this year.

“This has also impacted the production team, who we continue to support.

“Finally there will be a health and safety review of the show, in line with our procedures.”

Back in December 2022, former cricketer Freddie was involved in an accident at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey and airlifted to hospital.

It was said at the time that Freddie was “lucky to be alive” after the smash.

And, according to The Times, a source close to the “daredevil” star has said he is now considering quitting the show as the “doesn’t feel like he is able to continue to play that role on the show” anymore.
