‘Petrified’ Simon Cowell had therapy after ‘friends got really ill’

Simon Cowell has opened up about his mental health battle which left him needing therapy.

The 63-year-old music mogul has bravely discussed the troubles he faced during the Coronavirus pandemic.

He has revealed that he’s been suffering from depression for years and he thought it was his his “character trait”.

Simon said that Covid-19 lockdown was a catalyst.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge told the Mirror: “In the very, very, very early stages, some friends of mine got really ill and I’m talking about really ill.

”So, I thought, ‘God, if I catch this, maybe the same thing’s going to happen to me, Eric and Lauren.

“I didn’t know what was true or not [on the news], I just didn’t have a clue other than I was petrified about catching it. Just petrified.”

He shared his health battle as part of the publication’s Men in Mind podcast.

Simon also talks about discovering therapy for the first time.

“When I see my friends, the first thing I talk about is how therapy has had this super positive effect on my life,” he said.

“I wish I had done this 10 or 20 years ago. It’s like a weight has lifted off my shoulders.”

The father of one hopes that by him speaking out about his therapy sessions will encourage others to reach out for help.

He said he “didn’t see anybody” bar the occasional visitor who were tested before they were allowed to see the family.

The TV superstar says he was also worried about the filming of Britain’s Got Talent, which was halted due to the coronavirus rules at the time.
