Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt announces major change to BBC show's format

Saturday Kitchen got off to a cracking start for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend on Saturday morning (April 8), but all was not as it seemed.

Matt Tebbutt, who headed up the beloved BBC One cookery show, issued format shakeup announcement midway through his introduction monologue.

Airing for an hour and a half on Saturday, Matt was joined by chefs Richard Bainbridge and Shivi Ramoutar in the studio kitchen.

Introducing special guest and Loose Women icon Judi Love, Matt spoke of how she would later be facing her food heaven or food hell.

Host Matt issued an announcement during Saturday morning’s episode

After speaking to Judi about what her food heaven and hell was, Matt issued an announcement about the show’s format.

Usually viewers at home get to vote for what food the celebrity guest will get to eat at the end of the show.

And because the show is usually live, viewers usually get to pick whether or not the celebrity will be given their food heaven or food hell – via a vote on the show’s website, which gets promoted on social media.

But it was all change this weekend when a format shakeup was announced.

Announcing the slight format shakeup, Matt went on to reveal: “As we’re not live today, what Judi gets to eat at the end of the show will be down to chance.”

After the shakeup was announced, one fan was clearly shocked when they penned: “It’s not live!”

While another viewer joked: “Oh they’re still In bed.”

Loose Women legend Judi’s food heaven was fried chicken, while her food hell was semolina.

Admitting that she isn’t a fan of the texture of semolina, Judi scrunched up her nose and almost heaved – almost trying to convince Matt to present her with her food heaven.

Throughout the show Matt urged that the show was prerecorded and “not live”, adding that Judi’s food heaven and food hell would be picked in a different way to how it usually would be.

Saturday Kitchen airs at 10am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday mornings.
