Strictly’s Katya Jones hits back at being ‘stitched up’ after fans blasted outfit choice

Strictly Come Dancing star Katya Jones hit back at claims they were “stitched up” during their latest performance.

The 34-year-old appeared on Strictly: It Takes Two on Friday (October 13) alongside partner Nigel Harman as the pair discussed their routine last week. The duo opened Saturday (October 7) night’s show with the jive and danced to the Batman theme tune dressed as two iconic characters, Batman and Robin.

But fans were less than impressed with their outfits and slammed bosses for “screwing” them over. Katya was quick to address the claims on the Strictly spinoff show, insisting they were more than happy with both their outfits and the performance.

Katya insisted: “I love Strictly because we get to teach these amazing people to dance but also we get to come up with these creative concepts and the whole production gets on board with it. It did come up that we were stitched up for the jive dressed as Batman and Robin, but it was fully my vision and we love 1966 Batman and Robin, it’s hilarious.

“We found it extremely funny.” Katya continued: “I don’t know how it came across but we loved it and we loved the whole week. We loved putting our own little elements into it and making it our own.”

The former EastEnders star, 50, addressed his outfit on the night, telling presenter Claudia Winkleman after the dance: “I wanted the really cool sexy one and I got the one in tights.” He added: “I looked at it and thought well I have to commit.”

Fans were furious at the outfits chosen for the pair and headed straight to X, formerly known as Twitter, to vent their frustrations. One person fumed: “Argh!!! I hate movie week and themes on #Strictly …that comedy jive was a bit “meh”. Nobody wants to leave dressed as a comedy Batman! Keep Nigel Harman in!!!!”

A second added: “Better get my votes in for Nigel & Katya tonight considering how much production has done them dirty with that song choice.

“Someone needs to be fired. #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly.” Another viewer agreed: “Better get my votes in for Nigel & Katya tonight considering how much production has done them dirty with that song choice. Someone needs to be fired. #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly.”

While a fourth shared: “Please please let’s not have a repeat of last year with the sacrificial terrible costume first dance being voted out #strictly.” Despite concern that the couple would be eliminated due to their outfits, it was Nikita Kanda and Gorka Marquez who were sent packing by the judges.
