This Morning hosts say they will ‘continue to work’ as they ignore ITV scandal

This Morning presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary have confirmed they will continue business as usual as they appeared to ignore the recent ITV scandal on Monday’s show (May 29).

Before heading into the segment Morning’s View, in which the hosts discuss topical news-related events, Dermot and Alison highlighted how much they enjoyed working on the programme.

Appearing to ignore the scandal concerning former presenter Phillip Schofield, Dermot said he “loves working on This Morning”, while Alison added that they will “continue to do just that”.

Dermot said: “We know that we are in the news at the moment, we appreciate that, but we just want to say that we are happy here and we love working here and we love making this show for you, so that’s what we’re going to do.”

Adding to their comments, regular guest Gyles Brandreth said: “We are very happy to be here, can I say that as well?”

As Alison encouraged him to speak his mind, he continued: “This is a happy place to work and I enjoy coming in here and I have done since I began coming in here.

“So this is good to be here!”

However, viewers were not convinced by the pair’s stance and headed straight to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Gyles Brandreth said he is happy to work on the show

One viewer said: “They still want to paint this as a happy, lovely, smiley working culture? Really? After all that’s come out?”

Another chimed: “#thismorning is a happy place to work. It’s a happy place to be. Are you happy? I’m happy. FFS don’t take us for fools, you patronising idiots.”

A third said: “Do feel sorry for Dermot and Alison, must be awkward as hell to have to say it’s a happy place through gritted teeth. Show needs to be put out of the current misery, and rested until the autumn.”

While a fourth added: “Idk how they can sit and pretend nothings happened it’s so funny like the tension is THERE.”

Last week, shamed host Phillip confirmed that he did in fact have a relationship with a younger employee while working on the show which he describe as “unwise but not illegal”.

However, broadcaster ITV said it had investigated the relationship in 2020 but found no evidence of it beyond “rumour”.

ITV also added that both Phillip and the junior colleague had at the time “categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours.”
