This Morning in presenter shake-up as Ben Shephard kicks off show with cheeky comment

Ben Shephard made his This Morning debut alongside Holly Willoughby on Monday (September 25).

The TV host normally appears on both Good Morning Britain and Tipping Point on ITV, but after Phillip Schofield’s exit from This Morning which prompted a rotation of Holly’s co-hosts, Ben Shephard stepped in.

As Holly introduced Ben as her new co-host for the Monday morning, she asked him if he enjoyed his lay in this morning, prompting Ben to say he was able to get up three hours later than usual. He said he was feeling “fresh”, while Holly turned attention to his outfit.

Ben, who is normally seen in a suit on both Tipping Point and GMB, donned a pair of trousers and a jumper as he kicked off the show with Holly.

She cheekily joked that without his suit Ben was donning his “Sunday clothes”, as Ben chuckled and teased: “There’s less of me on a weekend!” Holly giggled as the duo soon moved on and spoke about the upcoming segments on the show.

He told Holly it was “a treat” to appear alongside her on the show, but added he would be on his “best behaviour”. Holly encouraged him not to be “too good”.

As Ben appeared alongside the regular host on the show, fans rushed to X – formerly Twitter – and praised Ben’s appearance. One user wrote: “Ooooh a lovely bit of Ben Shephard. Don’t mind if I do.”

While another said: “Ben Shephard has finally made his way to the This Morning couch. It just seems like a natural fit. Hope they make the move permanent.” Another added: “Omg Ben Shephard on This Morning. That’s all my work cancelled ’til lunchtime.”

Meanwhile another fan declared that Ben should be a “permanent presenter” with Holly, adding: “They’ve worked together loads. He can laugh at the right moment. He’s not loud, he’s respectful, he’s professional.”

Alison Hammond confirmed that Ben would be making an appearance on the ITV show as she wrapped up Friday’s show.

She said: “Holly will be back on Monday when she’s gonna be presenting alongside the lovely Ben Shephard,” prompting Dermot to add: “Yeah as it should be.”

It’s unclear if Ben will be making a permanent stint on the show – but fans were thrilled to have him on the show.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
