Top Gear’s Freddie Flintoff TV comeback confirmed after horror BBC show crash

Freddie Flintoff will make his highly anticipated TV return in 2024, after recovering from his horrific car crash on Top Gear.

The beloved England cricketer, 45, was forced to put his life on hold last year when he reportedly turned a corner at just 22mph in an open-topped car without a helmet during the show. The sporting legend broke several ribs and suffered severe facial injuries and has rarely been spotted out and about since the incident happened last December.

But it appears as though the dad-of-two is ready to put the accident behind him, with the star now rumoured to be in talks about making a second series of Field of Dreams. The first series of the BBC One documentary saw the sportsman follow a group of kids in his home city of Preston as they explored the world of cricket.

In addition to a possible second series, the famous petrolhead could also revive the stalled vehicle makeover show Chasing Cars, which was described as “The Repair Show meets Top Gear.” But that’s not all, with the hunk also reported to be in discussions with producers about other new projects as well.

Freddie may decide to be interviewed about the terrifying crash itself and open up about the physical and psychological struggles he has faced since he got his facial injuries. Now, a TV insider has told The Sun what could be on the horizon for the loveable cricket star.

They told the publication: “Freddie is a hugely popular TV star and any channel or streamer would be thrilled to sign up one of his shows. His return to the limelight is something both telly execs and the public have been longing for and thankfully he now seems ready to return to doing what he loves.

“He just needs to get past the one year anniversary of the crash, then he can focus on the next chapter of his career. He’s already in talks about what he wants to work on in 2024 and beyond.” Freddie is thought to be back working with the production company South Shore who he has worked with on many projects.

Their collaborations include the ITV reality show Don’t Rock the Boat, the documentary Two Men in a Tent and the BBC One documentary Freddie Flintoff: Living with Bulimia. Their most recent project was a Field of Dreams which he is set to return to in the new year.

Daily Star has reached out to a representative for Freddie. The news comes after The Sun revealed last week that the long-running motor show Top Gear will not be returning after Freddie’s traumatising accident.

Fans will recall how he was airlifted to hospital after he drove a three-wheeler Morgan Super 3 without a helmet. The car unfortunately flipped over at just 22mph at Dunsford Park Aerodrome in the heart of Surrey, which is where the show filmed many of their stunts and test drives.

Last week, the cricketer spoke publicly for the first time since he was seriously injured, where he admitted he was going through “the hardest” time of his life.

The TV presenter attended the event to award an England cap to spin bowler Tom Hartley before he gave an emotional speech where he told the player it was a day the player will “remember for the rest of your life.”
