Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak puts 'professional wrestler' contestant in headlock

Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak jokingly put a contestant in a headlock after they showed off about being a professional wrestler on the show.

At the start of the programme, the contestant named Fred Jackson, introduced himself as a drama teacher and bar trivia host – who also does professional wrestling “for fun” of it.

The introduction seemed to trigger the bizarre moment at the end of the show as host Pat Sajak was seen putting him in a headlock after he finished the show with a grand total of $75,800 (£61,000).

The contestant was seen getting emotional at his huge win and was seen hugging someone else onstage when the 76-year-old comedically tackled him – holding Fred’s left arm behind his back and locking his right arm around his jaw.

Sajak’s commentary about Fred during the episode, which aired on March 21, alluded to that moment as he poked fun at him for being a wrestler.

When Fred’s wins kept rolling in, Sajak asked the other contestants if they’d like him to ‘body slam’ him.

He said: “Just because he’s a professional wrestler…you want me to body slam him for you?”

To which, the others said: “Yes.”

Viewers were quick to poke fun at the bizarre moment, as one person wrote on social media: “Not only another Perfect Game, but another showdown with Pat vs. another contestant.”

Another added: “What was with Pat at the end?”

A third commented: “Don’t fall Pat.”

“That was a good one!! The end was so funny,” a fourth said.

The news comes after a Wheel of Fortune episode caused a stir for all the wrong reasons.

The popular US game show left fans reeling after a “mistake” helped a contestant take home £15,400.

The programme faced backlash from viewers at home who claimed host Pat Sajak misinterpreted Angela Evans’ answer during a game.

She appeared to ask for the letters B, H, D, and A when Pat asked her to confirm the third letter was a D.
