A Place in the Sun couple shut down viewing after spotting ‘concerning’ detail

A Place in the Sun buyers halted a viewing on a property they liked after spotting a “concerning” damp patch in the living room.

Property expert Ben Hillman was in Spain’s Southern Costa Calida to help married couple Joan and Andrew find their perfect holiday home. The couple, who have a big family, were looking for somewhere everyone could enjoy together on a budget of £80,000.

In the episode, which aired tonight on Channel 4, the pair explained that they wanted somewhere near the sea and with a pool. As usual, the pair were shown around five potential options as Ben hoped they would put in an offer on one of them.

However, the pair seemed hard to please through out most of the show, with the first property’s kitchen being a let down. Andrew and Joan said they’d have preferred something bigger.

But the second property, a two-bedroom apartment in Los Puertos, also sparked concerns about the kitchen size. The property, which was on the market for just under £71,500, had a communal pool, and an open plan living space, balcony and sea views — but Andrew had some concerns.

The third was dubbed the nicest option by fans but the pair couldn’t envision themselves living there. However, things seemed on the up once they got to the fourth property — a ground floor apartment on the market for just over £79k.

They described the home as having “potential” as they loved the en-suite bathroom, communal pool and dining area. However, Andrew warned his wife that he had spotted an issue in the living room – it was what appeared to be a patch of mould.

He said: “I’m a little bit concerned about a damp patch I’ve spied in the living room.” The issue prompted them to dismiss the property completely as they immediately told Ben it wasn’t a contender.

At the end of the show, the pair decided not to make an offer on any of the properties. Instead, they said they would be returning home to go over their budget and look into increasing it before continuing their search.
