Ant and Dec ‘broke TV rule’ at end of Saturday Night Takeaway — but fans dub it ‘amazing’

Ant and Dec appeared to break a TV rule during their final-ever Saturday Night Takeaway episode.

On Saturday night (April 13) the Geordie duo returned for one last time for their epic two-hour final. After 20 years on screen, the pair vowed to throw “the party to end all parties” to polish off the last-ever episode.

Not only was the show extended to two hours – but there were a ton of hilarious moments and segments. Celebs like Alison Hammond, Girls Aloud and Josie Gibson also made appearances too.

However, it appears the show may have bent the rules right at the end of the show. But fans of the much-loved series have insisted it’s “always good to break the rules occasionally.”

A member of staff who worked on the show took to their X, formerly known as Twitter account, to point out the ‘rule bend.’ The user uploaded a screenshot of the show near the very end.

Ant, Dec and several famous faces all jumped on stage to sing along to their swan song. The credits then appeared at the bottom of the screen.

Alongside the screenshot, they wrote: “I was a very small cog in the wheel that allowed those credits to break every rule in the (modern) book, and it looked amazing for it.”

Curious, one fan asked: “What’s the rule that was broken?” The employee replied: “Credits usually full frame/black backdrop/then squeezed with VO.”

Someone else replied: “A great decision and wish we saw it more! Always good to break the rules occasionally.” A third person wrote: “Who cares? Was all the better for it, ending on then walking out after the credits was amazing! Will miss this show!”

Clarifying the rule break, another fan explained: “Every show has to have white text on a black background using the ITV font for end credits.”

Elsewhere on the final programme, the show took a cheeky turn when the pair were tasked to compete in an all-or-nothing final of Ant VS Dec. The pair competed in the penalty shoot-out that was hosted by their co-star Stephen Mulhern where each star was tasked with taking five goals each.

But when Dec was crowned the winner, Ant decided to rugby tackle Stephen – who was dressed as a giant trophy – to the ground. However, when the show returned from the ad break, Ant was seen dabbing his face as they returned to the main stage. His co-star was quick to quiz him about his injury. It was at this point that Ant revealed he had accidentally cut his face on Stephen’s costume and was bleeding.
