Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway fans beg ‘end it’ after ‘cringe’ Cat Deeley segment

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway fans were left “cringing” after one segment.

The hit ITV show returned on Saturday (March 23) and featured an appearance from This Morning host Cat Deeley. The presenter, 47, joined her former SMTV co-stars for part of the show they branded “What’s next?”

The segment has been a part of Saturday Night Takeaway since it first kicked off 10 years ago and is the only time Ant and Dec aren’t aware of what comes next. After their autocue was switched off and ear pieces were removed, Cat arrived on stage.

She recalled the time the Geordie duo “practically set her on fire” three years ago when she was reading Bedtime Stories on CBeebies. Cat presented Ant and Dec with her own bedtime story which she renamed Dreadtime Stories.

The presenters were forced to follow whatever instructions were in the book. Ant, named in the book as Anty, arrived on stage in a giant purple monster costume. Meanwhile Dec, now known as Decky, sported a troll costume complete with a huge orange wig.

Their tasks included doing burpees and eating porridge with fermented tofu sauce. Dec was later told to put his hand inside a box, which he thought featured his biggest fear – pigeons.

They both received multiple electric shocks before being covered in slime. At the end of the segment, Ant fumed that he would never return to This Morning as a guest.

Fans had their say on this part of the show, and many weren’t pleased with what they saw. “What a load of tosh. End it please #SaturdayNightTakeaway,” wrote one viewer.

Another fumed: “Just tuned in. What the hell is this s**t. #SaturdayNightTakeaway.” Echoing this, a third penned: “F**k me what sad TV viewing Saturday night has become #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

A fourth weighed in: “Is this supposed to be embarrassing for them or for us? #SaturdayNightTakeaway.” Someone else agreed: “Other than ant constantly falling over, this is a complete cringe fest #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

Others saw the funny side of the segment however, with one writing: “Absolutely HOWLING at Ant falling over again and again in that costume #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

“Ant falling is too funny #SaturdayNightTakeaway,” echoed a second. Another said: “Anty the One Eyed Monster. This is the kind of thing that made SM:TV amazing #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”
