BBC Radio 1’s Greg James ‘storms off’ mid-show as he fumes ‘there’s no point’

Greg James has been seen “storming off” BBC Radio 1 mid-show, after ranting that “there’s no point” continuing.

The host was lost for words during Friday’s breakfast show (April 19) and threatened to walk, stating “nobody is listening to the show”. The broadcast coincided with the 7am release of Taylor Swift’s new “secret double album”, The Tortured Poets Department.

The record, which contains 31 tracks and more than two hours of material, sent the world into a frenzy as fans – dubbed Swifties – woke up early to get their latest fix of the 34-year-old. A visibly astonished Greg took to Instagram to share a video saying: “10 minutes into the breakfast show and she has just released another album,” before bursting into laughter.

“There’s probably nobody listening, there’s literally nobody listening now,” he commented, gazing around his silent studio, reports the Express.

Greg continued: “There’s no point, there’s nobody here because everyone has gone to listen to it. That will do well.” The host then decided to take the plunge – removing his headphones and rising from his chair.

“I will go and listen to it now,” he stated before pretending to exit through the door. Earlier this year at the Grammy Awards ceremony, pop superstar Taylor detailed the album in a shock acceptance speech.

Since then she has provided updates in the build-up to its release on X (formerly Twitter) as excitement reached fever pitch. At 2am on Friday she declared: “It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret double album.”

She went on to say: “I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second instalment of TTPD The Anthology. 15 songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.”

Taylor Swift stunned her fans at 2am by revealing her new release was in fact a double album of 31 songs

Before this bombshell, fans were led to believe they were only getting a single album drop. Taylor will be releasing the video for the first single from the album later, meanwhile.

Again at 2am – this time in the early hours of Saturday morning – fans will get to watch her collaboration with Post Malone, titled Fortnight – recalling her brief dalliance with The 1975 star, Matty Healy.
