Britain’s Got Talent in huge format shake-up as ‘rules have gone out the window’

Britiain’s Got Talent is about to blow fans away with a huge format change.

The popular ITV programme is back with a bang on Saturday night (April 20) with regular presenters Ant and Dec at the helm. Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli will also be back on screens for the hit show as a brand new fresh batch of talent get ready to entertain fans on the famous stage.

But as Daily Star attended the exclusive BGT press launch this week, the judges revealed that they added an extra surprise to the show. In previous series, only five golden buzzers were dished out by judges and Ant & Dec which secures an act’s place in the final.

However this year, producers decided to introduce nine golden buzzers after Bruno accidentally pressed the buzzer twice during the last season. Discussing the restructure, Alesha said: “More Golden Buzzers than ever!

“Since Bruno joined the rules have gone out of the window. I think there might be eight or nine this series!”

She also added: “That’s just the tip of the iceberg! There’s so much more to come.”

Britain’s Got Talent has come a long way from when it first started 17 years ago. Sharing his thoughts on how well the series has done, Simon spoke candidly about how the show almost never happened.

The music mogul said: “This show has a very interesting history when we first started because we did the pilot here and it was rubbish. Then luckily, we sold it to America and it was a hit. Then thank God ITV bought it but three days before we were due to film, they cancelled it.

So, we went up to Birmingham, because I didn’t tell anyone and thinking, ‘we’ve got 24 hours if it doesn’t work in the first day we’re toast. And thank God the first day went well.”

As the show reaches its 20th year, Simon also believes that it’s “going to be here for a long, long time”. He said: “I always thought if we can get three or four years out of this it will be amazing then you reach 10 years and you go, ‘that’s a milestone.

“I think because of what I said earlier so many people come from all over the world to compete and it’s not just winning the show, it’s having that viral moment which can literally change your life overnight, these clips sometimes get hundreds of millions of views.”
