CBB’s David Potts suffered vile abuse in street by three men for being gay

Celebrity Big Brother star David Potts is living it up in the House as his true, authentic self.

However, outside the house, the Ibiza Weekender star has been the subject of cruel abuse at the hands of homophobes. Potts himself opened up on some of the backlash he receives, including being abused in the street by three men.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, David – whose primary job was a holiday rep – returned to the UK due to the drop in holidays. But it was during his stint back home where he was hit with horrific abuse by people who did not like him purely for the fact of him being gay.

Taking to X formerly Twitter, in August 2020, the reality TV legend confessed he had been the subject of some vile verbal abuse by three men as he walked home. This awful encounter left him seething, as he gave followers an insight into what happened.

Potts questioned the men’s morals when he recalled how he was approached by the three lads – all described as being in their forties. The men had no qualms in hurling horrific abuse at David, who bullied him for his sexuality – something David has had to face repeatedly in his past.

However, ever the optimist, David said that he was grateful to be blessed with “thick skin” and that he was able to defend himself from the comments being made. Foaming at the mouth as he wrote his post, David asked: “How are we still in a world where abusing someone in the street because they are gay is still a thing?”

He continued: “Three grown men about 40 years old have just been abusing me in the street calling me every name under the sun. It’s vile! Luckily I have thick skin and I can stand up for myself.”

David was then inundated with messages of love and support from family, friends and fans who could not believe what he had been through. The ex- Celebs Go Dating star thanked everyone for their love, but admitted he feels fear for those who are less able to stand up for themselves in those situations.

Explaining himself, he said: “It’s the other people who that would of happened to and they are too scared to say anything back that worries me the most. I don’t take s**t from anyone and they were walking away whilst shouting things. Grown men though; absolutely pussies!”.

Fans were quick to rush to David’s side as they could not believe how intolerant some people are. “There are some horrid people out there, but ignore them; you are beautiful inside and out,” one fan penned.

“Grown men acting like children ! It’s sooo sad the world we live in today, glad you managed to stand your ground…. we love you!” a second user wrote.

Whilst a third fan said: “Hope you’re okay, some seriously ignorant and nasty people around unfortunately.” It comes as David continues to live it up in the Celebrity Big Brother House ahead of the final on Friday.

Having avoided being nominated in Monday’s instalment of the ITV show, the holiday rep is now counting down the days until the final of the show. Potts is considered a fan favourite, but will only be deemed the winner should he receive the most votes from the public in the final vote.

Celebrity Big Brother airs every Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
