Channel 4 issues tear-jerking tribute as Gogglebox star George Gilbey dies aged 40

Channel 4 has issued an emotional tribute to Gogglebox star George Gilbey, who has tragically died aged just 40.

George rose to fame thanks to the broadcaster in 2013, as he starred alongside his mum Linda and stepdad Pete in the second series of Gogglebox. A year later, meanwhile, he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, where he reached the final, losing out to actor Gary Busey.

Essex Police confirmed George’s passing in a statement on Wednesday (March 27), which read: “We received a report of an incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury at around 10am this morning (27 March), during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury. The ambulance service including air ambulance were in attendance. Sadly, the man died at the scene. We will continue liaising with partners including the Health and Safety Executive. A cordon remains in place at the scene.”

Writing in response, viewers were quick to console Linda, who also lost husband Pete to bowel cancer in 2021. One commented: “Poor Linda to have lost her husband and son in such a short time.”
