Channel 4 presenter quits show after 12 years and says ‘It’s time for new adventures’

Presenter Fatima Manji has announced she is quitting Channel 4 News, saying it’s “time for new adventures”.

The 39-year-old – who made news herself in 2016 when she became Britain’s first newsreader on national news to wear a hijab – had been with the programme since 2012. Sharing her decision on X, she admitted she would “miss the madness”.

“Uh hum,” she posted. “News of my own: I’ve decided to leave @Channel4News!”

Fatima – who has been on maternity leave after having a baby – went on: “I’ll miss the madness of news and feedback from viewers here, but after twelve (!) years, it’s time for new adventures…”

The TV star, who started her career at the BBC, didn’t share what she was doing next. But viewers are clearly hoping that she isn’t giving up journalism just yet.

“I’ve really valued your reporting, Fatima, and I hope there’ll be more!” one wrote on X, adding: “Thanks for your hard work and insights.”

“Sorry to hear you’re leaving, Fatima, you’re one of my favourite reporters on Channel 4!” said someone else. “Hope to see you again on the small screen, soon!”

Another fan posted: “I loved your presentation and reporting. So sorry you’re going. Has it been 12 years? All the best in the future in whatever you do – I hope we’ll see you elsewhere.”

Someone else said Fatima had been a “trailblazer”, while another said her departure was “a huge loss for Channel 4 News”. “Thank you for your honest, authentic and heartfelt journalism,” commented someone else. “You will be very much missed. Good luck with the next part of your career!

Last year Fatima told fans she had welcomed a baby, explaining her absence from the channel with a post on X that said: “I’m off screen and away from the day job for a while @Channel4News because I’m on maternity leave. Baby is here and we are both doing well. Thanks to my lovely colleagues for their discretion and helping me hide the bump on air.”
