Coronation Street confirms ‘exit’ for character following devastating fire twist

Coronation Street producers have appeared to reveal how Aggie Bailey will leave the Street, months after she was last seen on the cobbles.

Aggie, who is played by Lorna Laidlaw on the ITV soap, last set foot on the Weatherfield street early last year. Despite only appearing for a few weeks, Aggie then left the cobbles behind to look after a relative in Birmingham.

But it seems her return is set to be on the cards, as Aggie’s name was mentioned during Monday night’s episode (January 29). In the clip, Ed tells of his shock after son Michael was almost killed in a terrifying fire that engulfed the builder’s yard.

In terrifying scenes that aired earlier this month, Michael was seen being trapped in the yard fighting to get out of the building. Dad Ed has since been accused of starting the fire as a way to claim insurance money to pay back unpaid debts.

Aggie has not been seen on screen since last year

Since then, Michael has turned on dad Ed, saying that he was the one to start the fire. He even has gone as far as to grass Ed up to Aggie on the phone, as Michael goes on the war path.

As a result of what Michael is telling her, Aggie has seemingly “washed her hands” of Ed and following the horrific fire, Aggie and Ed seem to be ending things for good. As well as the insurance money, Michael spilled the beans to his mum on Ed’s gambling woes, revealing he had lost the money he had and resorted to starting the fire for the insurance payout.

Now, it seems that Aggie is definitely gone for good after she cut all ties with her now ex-husband on Monday’s episode. Ed called his wife to plead with her to come back, all for Aggie to hit back saying she wanted nothing to do with him.

Fans of the show are now certain that this is ITV bosses’ way of confirming a more permanent exit for Aggie. Taking to social media, one fan said: “Is this finally acknowledgement from Corrie that she is not coming back?”

A second user added: “So after being absent for months, we finally get an Aggie appearance only for her to say she’s not coming back?” Whilst a third account posted: “Aggie really not coming back then – otherwise they’d have set up a big comeback.”

Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
