Coronation Street’s Peter star Chris Gascoyne’s tattoos including huge ink blunder

Coronation Street icon Chris Gascoyne has played Peter Barlow for two decades, but fans not know just how many tattoos he has.

From his hard-hitting battle with alcoholism to walking out of his wedding to Leanne Battersby, after referring to his ex’s affair with Nick Tilsley as ‘good old-fashioned adultery’, Peter Barlow has been at the centre of huge moments on the ITV soap.

The bookmaker even battled the law and spent time in the confines of a jail cell when he was falsely accused of murdering Tina McIntyre. But now, Chris has decided it’s time to chase pastures new and Peter left the soap earlier this year.

Throughout his time on the show, the actor’s tattoos have regularly caught the viewers’ attention, but unlike the lines given to him by ITV producers, his body art is his own personal choice.

Outside of the show, Chris can’t get enough of tattoos, having started his journey long before he ever set foot on the cobbles.

Luckily, his look was perfect for the role, with Peter renowned for his background in the Navy, where tattoos are extremely popular.

Chris has several notable pieces, including a green dragon, which sits menacingly on his shoulder, as if it could spring to life at any second. However, while the mythical creature looks intimidating, it actually symbolises wisdom, freedom and strength.

In addition, Chris has two women tattooed on his body, with a pin-up on his bicep, while another rests on his heart (Who knows what Carla Connor thinks about that?) The Corrie star also has an elegant panther sitting triumphantly on his left arm.

But as good as this tattoo looks, Chris has revealed that it actually came about under disastrous circumstances. When you pay a tattoo artist to put something permanent on your body, you hope that they at least have the ability to spell your name correctly.

Alas, Chris wasn’t so lucky. He told Manchester Gossip: “The first tattoo I had was a panther’s head with my name written under it. The tattooist said, ‘Oops, sorry mate, I’ve [bleep].’ He had written ‘CHIS’ instead of ‘CHRIS’!

“He squeezed an ‘R’ in, which looked rubbish, so I had another black panther on top of it to cover it up. I don’t regret them; I don’t really think about them anymore.”
