Corrie’s Beverley Callard stripped topless for show with EastEnders star before soap fame

Beverley Callard once went topless for a saucy role in a TV show before finding fame on Coronation Street.

The actress, 66, became a household name back in the ‘80s playing Liz McDonald on the ITV soap. Liz rocked up to the cobbles with the rest of the McDonald clan, including her son Steve (Simon Gregson) in 1989.

And for 30 years, she was a regular and played a part in several big storylines. From saucy flings to blazing feuds, Liz’s time on the soap was not short of drama.

But in 2019, Liz left soap fans gutted when she confirmed she was leaving. The iconic character then said her goodbyes to soap a year later.

Since then, Beverlye has kept herself busy. In 2020, she appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, and she also landed a spin-off travel show with IAC co-star Jordan North.

But way back before she shot to fame thanks to Corrie, Beverley appeared in a supernatural telly series. And it turns out she went totally topless for one saucy scene.

The star had a small role as Rhonda in 1983 show Shades of Darkness. The programme was a British anthology series that featured six ghost stories.

In one sizzling scene, Beverley stripped off and can be seen passionately kissing a man who was standing behind her. It was not a big part for Bev though as she didn’t get any lines.

Also starring on the show were some future established stars including a young Hugh Grant. What’s more, EastEnders legend June Brown made an appearance too before she joined the BBC soap at Dot Cotton.

A source told The Sun in 2020: “It was one of Bev’s first roles. She doesn’t say a word. She’s starkers and getting it on when the main character stumbles in. Blink and you’ll miss it. It lasts barely two seconds.”

It’s not just a soap stint that Beverley has under her belt. Away from Corrie, she starred in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and became a Loose Women panelist in 2010.

Bev also took part in the 20th series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! where she became the third celeb to get voted out. Due to covid restrictions, the series was filmed in Wales, not Australia.
