Corrie’s Max star confirms shocking twist as teen’s ‘dark side will resurface’

Coronation Street star Paddy Bever says fans will see “a real darkness resurface” in his character Max Turner.

As fans will know all too well, Max has had a troubled past on the Cobbles. He was expelled from Weatherfield High after his smear campaign against teacher Daniel Osbourne.

He was also thrown behind bars in a youth detention centre for his time in Griff Reynolds’ far-right extremist gang and initially faced up to 15 years in prison before being released. But it seems he could be led astray once more.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star at the TV Choice Awards 2024, the 21-year-old soap star teased that Max will go down a worrying path in upcoming scenes on the ITV soap. Asked what’s in store for Max, Paddy said: “There’s lots coming up…

Max Turner’s “darkness will resurface”, Paddy told Daily Star’s Sam Huntley

“I think for Max unlocking past fears and trauma and also, fearing not being able to protect the people he loves. I think you’re going to see a real darkness resurface in Max.”

One potential cause of Max’s angst came in recent scenes, when Lauren confessed to Max and his girlfriend Sabrina that she’s been recording steamy content for adult site O-Vidz.

As Paddy linked Max’s ‘dark’ development to a fear of not being able to protect his loved ones, this would check out. Paddy said Max will fear Lauren is putting herself in danger by uploading content to O-Vidz.

Asked how Max feels about the bombshell, Paddy explained: “Max being an orphan has a fear of not being able to protect the people he loves. I think in terms of Lauren being someone he will always love, always care about, even if they’re not in a relationship, he still cares very much for her and they’re still very close friends.

He added: “I think the fear of not being able to protect Lauren who is now in quite a vulnerable position is quite unnerving for Max. Definitely”.
